Hezel Associates Partners with All Star Code to Provide Monitoring and Evaluation Services

All Star Code has implemented the Summer Intensive program which provides the opportunity for Black and Latino high school boys to acquire computer science knowledge and skills, build a professional network, and be part of a community that promotes professional and entrepreneurial success. Hezel Associates has partnered with All Star Code to provide monitoring and evaluation services and to assist in the development of a data management system. Hezel Associates aims to provide feedback to All Star Code and stakeholders regarding how the Summer Intensive program works, how it benefits students, and how the program model contributes to understanding broader impacts.

Hezel Associates is conducting a mixed methods evaluation of the program, which will include a review of program documents and records, interviews with All Star Code staff and tech industry partners, and pre/post-surveys of participants. Data from these sources, as well as extant data from All Star Code, will be analyzed separately and then synthesized to answer the evaluation questions regarding program implementation and participant outcomes. To help build All Star Code’s capacity for measuring long-term impact, Hezel Associates will also develop long-term impact surveys for implementation in 2018. Evaluation findings will be presented in two reports, one intended for community and stakeholder groups, and one intended for research audiences. As a result of the evaluation, All Star Code and stakeholders will have a better understanding of how the program works and the immediate outcomes for participants.
