Midland University MBA Feasibility Study (2011 - 2012)

Building upon the strengths of its residential program, Midland University (MU) was considering expanding its academic offerings to include a hybrid MBA program. This consideration was prompted by sustainability and growth motivations coupled with physical constraints for growing a graduate program on campus. The University’s embarked on feasibility explorations with an eye toward long-term growth of Midland’s business administration offerings within the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE-IA area and recognition of geographic constraints a residential program would encounter.

To illuminate general market demand, Hezel Associates collated a snapshot of potential student demand for Midland’s proposed hybrid MBA program through an online prospective student demand survey. We began the exploration of market demand by first establishing a contextual understanding of the overall interest in MBA degrees, followed by a detailed investigation of program design preferences. Our findings and recommendations were based on data collected from 150 qualified respondents. Based on the research findings and recommendations provided by Hezel Associates, MU was able to understand their market demand and make better informed decisions about their new Hybrid MBA program.

Furthermore, Hezel Associates conducted a Market Feasibility Study for MU’s new academic expansion plans. This project encapsulated a meta-analysis of Nebraska’s occupational supply and demand, focusing specifically on the alignment between Midland’s proposed MBA program and the relevant labor market clusters. Hezel Associates both interviewed administrators from five peer institutions and identified competing institutions within MU’s defined market region as well as online competitors. With the data collected and presented by Hezel Associates, MU administrators were better able to make effective decisions reflecting market demand and supply for their new academic strategies.
