College of Mount Saint Vincent NSF Noyce Teacher Scholarship Evaluation (2014-2018)

The College of Mount Saint Vincent (www.mountsaintvincent.edu) is a private 4-year institutionCMSV of higher education located in the Bronx, New York. In July 2013, the National Science Foundation awarded the College of Mount Saint Vincent the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship grant. The program will provide scholarships and support for students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and math who are interested in becoming teachers in New York’s high-need school districts. Hezel Associates began serving as external evaluator in January 2014 and will continue over the five-year grant period.

Throughout this engagement Hezel Associates will measure implementation and impact of program strategies on increasing the number of effective STEM teachers. Specifically, this project will assess the extent and quality of implementation; increases in undergraduate math and science majors pursuing teaching careers and completing the teacher certification program; and the effectiveness of those graduates in terms of teaching practices and increased K-12 student learning. Hezel Associates will be using a combination of document review and both survey and extant data analysis in order to perform this evaluation. Throughout this five-year grant period, Hezel Associates aims to provide regular assessments of program activities allowing CMSV to identify program successes and short-comings in order to maximize benefits to program participants.
