Higher Education

The Distance Education Clearinghouse is a comprehensive and widely recognized Web site bringing together distance education information from Wisconsin, national, and international sources. New information and resources are being added to the Distance Education Clearinghouse on a continual basis. The Clearinghouse is managed and maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Extension, in cooperation with its partners and other University of Wisconsin institutions.

The Southern Regional Education Board has three reports on its website: Credit Issues, Quality Assurance, and Student Services. At its June, 1999, meeting, the SREB approved the establishment of the SREB Distance Learning Policy Laboratory. Building upon the work of the Educational Technology Cooperative and the Electronic Campus, the Policy Laboratory seeks to reduce or eliminate existing or potential policy barriers to distance learning activities in three broad areas: access, quality, and cost.

The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a national nonprofit organization, promotes the use of information technologies and the Internet in K-12 education to improve learning. CoSN is especially known for its work supporting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and efficient budgeting for K-12 technology initiatives.

State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) is the principal association representing the state directors for educational technology. SETDA's membership includes educational technology directors and staff from the state departments of education of all fifty states, the District of Columbia and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. As members of SETDA, state leaders work together in committees, subcommittees and task forces to assess, analyze and propose recommendations on how to improve student learning through technology.
