findings on learning processes in online education at
the 10th Sloan-C International Conference on Asynchronous

Federal Government-Funded Study Examines
the Link Between Teacher Professional Development and
Student Achievement
Hezel Associates today announced that its researchers
are undertaking an experimental study in elementary
schools across the nation to determine the relationship
between online teacher professional development and
student achievement. Fueled by No Child Left Behind
requirements, the study will involve more than 100 teachers
and 2,500 students from schools in Miami-Dade County,
Fla., Richland, S.C., and Buffalo, N.Y. Click

Six-Month Study Provides Onondaga Community
College with Strategic Plans for Distance Learning and
Community Education Programs
Continuing professional education remains one of the
fastest growing segments of the higher education market,
particularly in community college settings. Hezel Associates
recently completed a six-month study for Onondaga Community
College (OCC) that included a market analysis and the
creation of two strategic plans – for Community
Education and Outreach Services and Distance Learning.
The plans positioned OCC to be an agile and responsive
college with the ability to increase community access
to education through the deployment of distance learning.

Hezel Associates presents findings from its study of
teacher professional development to US Department of
Education
To fulfill reporting requirements under the Ready To
Teach (RTT) program, Hezel Associates provided evaluation
findings to date of its study of PBS TeacherLine.
Hezel Associates presented the RTT expert panel with
detailed information concerning the teacher-level outcomes
associated with participation in TeacherLine's online
courses. In addition, the evaluation team described
its progress in laying the groundwork for an experimental
study of student outcomes, which will be conducted during
the 2004-05 school year.
Based on Hezel Associates' presentation, the expert
panelists will offer PBS and the evaluation team feedback
concerning activities scheduled for Year 5 (2004-05),
the final year of the grant.

selection by the Arizona Board of Regents
to provide a set of strategic recommendations for the
future of its Arizona Regents University
(ARU). ARU is a cooperative service jointly offered
by Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University,
and University of Arizona. Hezel Associates' recommendations
will be based on a three-month study to evaluate the
initial vision, goals and purpose of ARU in light of
changing needs and the desire to place a strong emphasis
